About Thames
 Thames, the Gateway to the Coromandel Peninsula lies at the base of the Firth of Thames and the foothills of the Coromandel range with a friendly population of approximately 7,000 residents.
All major cities – Hamilton, Auckland and Tauranga are within 1-2 hours driving time.
The hub of the Coromandel, Thames has the advantages of a Hospital with most services, a medical centre, plus several kindergartens, 9 primary schools, a major High School with student enrolment of approximately 700.
The sporting facilities are numerous ranging from rugby, netball, soccer, and tennis to a covered swimming pool and an 18-hole golf course.
Other activities of interest to locals include tramping club, garden club, croquet, church organizations, sailing club, bowls, gymnasium, arts and crafts centre and some of the Peninsulas most guarded fishing spots.
Thames Main Street (Pollen Street) is one of New Zealand’s longest streets, boasting from historic boutiques to Wine bars, Cafes, Restaurants together with the ever-popular Saturday morning market offering visitors and residents a range of service.
Thames also has a modern undercover shopping mall with a wide range of national chains and specialty shops including Stirling Sports, The Warehouse, Pak N Save with ample parking for all.
The Thames Coast, a beautiful stretch of world class scenic coastline has a variety of accommodation ranging from Bed and Breakfast to Motels and Motor camps. |
